Son Vida

An exclusive neighbourhood just outside of Palma. Son Vida is a residential area located very close to the city of Palma and is one of the most sought after and exclusive locations in Mallorca. Its manicured golf courses, famous hotels and architect-designed villas make it a popular destination for well-heeled golfers and discerning home owners, as well as royal visitors, dignitaries and celebrities. Son Vida sits in an elevated position allowing amazing views of the surrounding mountains and countryside and the Bay of Palma. Son Vida enjoys a mixed, international community and has excellent access to international schools. This is a largely a residential area populated by villas, there are very few apartments available. This a great location for anyone on the lookout for a large, high quality, detached home.

History and Culture

The first mention of the name Son Vida derives from the famous Vida family including Mateu Vida who purchased land in 1518 and developed farming. There are records dating back to the 13th century for a castle here which is now a hotel. The list of visiting celebrities and dignitaries to Son Vida is endless. Princess Grace, Brigitte Bardot, Maria Callas and Sting are all reported to have stayed here. Today Son Vida still exudes an air of elite sophistication and is an exclusive venue for golf and is considered to be a district within greater Palma.

Things to do

The major attraction of Son Vida is superb provision of luxury facilities for residents and visitors alike, plus an impressive array of modern residential architecture. For home-owners it is also highly prized for its easy access to the airport, city and motorway network. The local spas, hotels and golf resorts hold regular events. Son Vida is also close enough to Palma to allow easy access for events in the city including: fiestas, cultural and boating events. Palma is a beautiful city to explore and get to know better with lots to do and see. Even over the busy summer season, there are still some corners of the island largely undiscovered by tourists.

Shopping and restaurants

With the city of Palma only a ten-minute drive away, there is a great deal of luxury shopping available close by. The shopping centre of Porto Pi is also within easy distance. A visit to Palma is a ‘must’ and what could be more fun than browsing in the local shops for unique products. Son Vida has a good choice of restaurants, some of which are run by local hotels. With Palma and the south west coast a short distance away, there is also an endless selection of good restaurants to choose from within a 15-minute drive.
